Following the historic breakthrough of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam in the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections, where party chief Joseph Vijay took oath as Chief Minister on Sunday, the party has officially begun expanding its political footprint into Kerala.

Steps to form TVK’s first unit in Kerala have been initiated at Vengappally in Wayanad, which shares a border with Tamil Nadu.

TVK’s Kerala expansion is being spearheaded by Safwan Khalil, who leads a group of around 20 youths. The group comprises IT professionals and commerce graduates, signalling a focus on a “new generation” of politics.

The members had put up large flex boards in Vengappally town congratulating TVK on its election victory.

Efforts are currently focused heavily on digital recruitment. Local organisers are using the “My TVK” app to register members, targeting youth and professionals. They have decided to hold an official meeting and announce office-bearers once the technical procedures related to the TVK app are completed.

The organisers also claimed that Vijay fans from other parts of Wayanad district have shown interest in collaborating with TVK units.

Plans to establish additional units are also underway in districts such as Palakkad, under the supervision of digital strategist Ashwin Jayaprakash.

Although specific town-level units across Kerala have not yet been fully identified, reports indicate that the party’s vision is attracting interest among youth and professionals across the state, with the “My TVK” app being used for registrations in several districts.

While the party is currently focused on building its grassroots base, TVK’s Kerala strategy is expected to mirror Vijay’s “secular social justice” platform, tailored to the state’s unique political landscape.

The party’s expansion drive in Kerala is specifically targeting educated youth, IT professionals and graduates in an effort to build a modern political foundation in the state.
